I.W.T and Pro Derny Crit

On Wednesday I raced the I.W.T Otingen 1.2 with the NZ team. It's a tough race with cobble sections and climbs so stayed by the front and stayed upright luckily. It was going good and I was riding really good position all race and on to the finishing circuits. With 5km to go I punctured so unfortunately that ruled out the chance of a good result but got a spare wheel eventually and rolled into the finish.

So I have just been cruising fr a few days until I race again on Sunday at a pro derny criterium in Deurne, Antwerp. The race is fixed so I just have to turn up and follow the motorbike so looking forward to it and to rubbing shoulder with some pros. I've linked in the start list with a few big names in there should make it a good time out! The event is 3 races, 1x25km 1x25km then 1x40km.

Looking forward to it!

Interclubs- Belsele/ Romsee-Stavelot-Romsee

I finished 5th at the Belsele interclub after making my way into a break of 6 with 20km to go. I stuffed the sprint by going way to early and that's about it.. Last Tuesday I had a raced down in the Ardennes at Romsee-Stavelot-Romsee. It was really nice to finally ride in some hills and through amazing scenery as you don't get that training in Holland.. At the start I was feeling it going over the first climb but after the the legs opened up and began to get in my groove. Unfortunately the break had gone and I had missed it which was a shame as I felt really good for the last 100km and managed to ride away with a guy from the pelo with a guy from lotto and pick up a few people that were dropping out of the breakaway. I Finished 18th which was ok but wasn't too happy as I should have been in the move early on. But that's bike racing. Learned a few lessons and moving forward.

New Year in Belgium

Has been a while since my last post so thought i'd keep you up to date with what I have been up to..

Year started off up and down with breaking my collarbone in late Jan which shut my chances of the track down for the year, but since then things have been on the up!

I manage to get a ride on a Belgium team for the season with 'Royal Antwerp Bicycle Club'. I Left NZ on the 6th of May after a great summer of relaxing and racing in NZ. Since getting here I have raced 3 kermesses, 2 interclubs and a 1.2 GP Van Coningsloo with the national team. The form is good and definitely on the up along with the confidence which is good. Managed to get a start with the National team at a 1.2 last Sunday. Was a fun race riding along side my mates and Michael Vink won it so everyone was buzzing. I was in the front split and came in 41st after leading a fellow kiwi out for the bunch sprint. A few celebratory beers in the square in Oudenaarde then back to work.

I have a few Interclubs coming up on the 11th, 16th and 18th so that will be a solid block of racing and looking forward to it!

Living in  Heide, Kalmthout with a team mate in a 2 bedroom apartment which is a pretty sweet set up. His Dad takes me out behind the Scooter motorpacing up in Holland as I am only living 5km from the dutch border, which is ideal.

Summer has finally hit Belgium and it's nothing but blue skies today and hopefully this week so will make the most of the sunshine and get some good training in.

The National team was happy with my performance at Van Coningsloo so hopefully some more racing with them is on the horizon.

Cheers
